What Are Vermin

what are vermin
What are the positive functions of flies and vermin?

What do they do that is beneficial to the world? Is it their contribution to the food chain? Do they predate on creatures harmful to the environment or humans? I am interested in knowing what, in the scientific sense, is good about having them around. In a moral sense, I do not dispute that they have the right to exist, but I would like to know how they actually benefit the world.

there is no solid answer for the infinite question "why are we here?". flies and "vermin" serve a role in the ecosystem just as any other animal does. many insects and bacteria help in the decomposition of plants and animals, turning them back into a usable chemical form for plants, thus bringing everything back to the base of the food chain. many insects also occupy the bottom rung for the carnivorous food chain just as krill do in oceanic ecosystems. i do not know whether you are a creationist or if you believe in evolution, but at the begining of time bacteria were the first living things on the planet, followed by worms, then gastropods and arthropods (insects, spiders, crustacians). mammals did not show up until a few hundred million years later. all of these "vermin" were here long before we were, and probably will be long after we are gone. so the better question might be, what purpose to do we serve? we do nothing to help decompose, or replenish the earth. we do not control populations in a healthy way (either ours or populations of other species) and destroy the very earth on which we depend on. we are the only species that seems to not fit the mold. we are harmful to every other plant and animal on earth. so why are WE here?
