do I need a professional pest control service for my not-so-old townhouse?
Hello.. I live in a 5 year old townhouse(Toll brothers) . away from water, away from big trees. very small yard on the back. I got this visit from a local pest control guy ( MOXIE ) and I fell for his talk and signed up for an annual contract.. but now i am wondering.. i don't have any visible pest problems - other than the occasional ants i see in the kitchen. Do i really need a professional pest control service? are there any invisible pests lurking behind my walls?
The answer really depends on your goals for protecting your house. Pest control companies are businesses and they do of course want a promise that you will be a regular for a long time and that is where the contracts come in.
There are pests in your walls, that is a guarantee. It only takes a crack about 1/8th of an inch for most insects to get in. Your home is usually nicer than the outside world and bugs are lured into your home by the promise of warmth in the winter and cool in the summer. Once they're in they need to eat and this is when you might notice them in the main part of your home.
Regular service is good for preventing infestations like roaches, ants, and termites. One time services are ok once you have the problem but as a professional I prefer to make the job easy and go for preventative maintenance. Emergency services are also quite a bit more expensive.
