Plantation History of Shutters
Over the past thousands of years man has developed a large number of items for his use, some of these inventions are complex yet some of them are very simple while a few may even be classified as luxury. But over the time those luxuries have developed in to elegant items which are further more divided into two parts. First part includes those which become outdated so their use has been discontinued or have been evolved into something else. The second part is those which are still used in their original form because of their vital need and unmatched characteristics
Such may be the example of plantation shutters. The plantation shutters have been around for a long time as they out weight the curtains or blinds in terms of elegance, price and durability. Plantation shutters had a higher preference ratio since its development as they provide clean-cut look and have become popular among homeowners searching for an attractive alternative to curtains or blinds due to a number of factors which also includes privacy. While curtain and blind provide with visual privacy these shutters provide somewhat security and blocks out the external noises which create a disturbance for residents and also block their sound from reaching to any external ears. These interior window coverings block out light effectively and look attractive, so it's no surprise that more homeowners are installing interior shutters in their homes in the past and still the pattern is observed over a large population.
When we observe the history drawn by the mankind we may deduce that plantation shutters first came into existence during the mid 1800s when plantation houses became popular throughout the southern United States, as these were the years when the rich nations were discovering cultivable land in order to form colonies which as result would ensure the survival of these old nations. But the real story is much older than the United States .The first sheet used in the history for such interior window treatments can be traced back to ancient Greece, which was a land where rich almost had paradise; it had more riches then the great Roman Empire and the work force larger than the Chinese. Its plans were more advanced as they followed a more civilized path towards science and technology
The real dates of invention cannot be defined but according to an estimate it is even before 3000 BC. As in 3000 BC glass was invented so the Greeks used shutters to keep out pests, control light and offer additional protection and privacy, which are still desired by almost every civilized man on our home planet. The Ancient Greeks had interior shutters, similar to plantation shutters, constructed from marble, which has been a symbol of royalty and last more longer then wood or metal. This made the shutters physically powerful and hard-wearing, much like internal shutters of used today. However, the ancient Greeks had louvers that were not movable, while today plantation shutters have louvers that are movable, which allows homeowners to control the amount of light that enters their home, thus the term evolution can be used for these shutters as they are moveable now a days and can be removed at will .
